About Catholic Charities USA
Catholic Charities USA (CCUSA) supports a national network of agencies committed to encountering those along the margins, regardless of their faith. Our mission is to provide service to people, families and communities in need, to advocate for justice in social structures and to call the entire church and other people of good will to do the same.
O'Grady's Rich History with Catholic Charities USA
Monsignor John O’Grady became the secretary of the National Conference of Catholic Charities (NCCC), the precursor to Catholic Charities USA, in 1919 and held this position until retirement in 1961. During his tenure, he was instrumental in the professionalization of Catholic social services, traveling widely across the United States, helping to develop many diocesan agencies and training their leaders. He believed strongly that Catholic Charities agencies had an important role in achieving social reform.
